Slightly above average.

This game actually has a bit of promise going for it. First off, I thought it was just a stupid little game, but it's not. It's challenging. If it were just you controlling Jim with your arrow keys, it'd be another pointless, boring avoiding game. You've done something here that gives us a differentiation from the normal.

Well, in the controls atleast. I never noticed why you did it in that way until I was at the level with the slime. If I ran into a wall, I died. I had to go through the down arrow to get to the up one, so I had to make sure I was constantly not too low. I died many times on that level. And the ones after that made use of this principal also. It's a good game in that respect.

The downside is your visuals. The title screen is, by far, the best screen of the game. In looks, atleast. Your level title cards are bland. I could make something like that in paint and I have no creative ability at all. You could've atleast added some flare to this rather than just click on the paintbrush icon and paint something.

For the rest of the game? They were fine for them, atleast. The stick figure looked slightly better, if only for the fact that he's in strips you can see. The only thing not black or gray are the colored objects in the game. Besides that, everything is in monotone. Perhaps you could fix that by adding, I don't know, more colors?

Well, it woudn't be so great withought its music. I never once heard the same loop over and over again. The music kept me going, and didn't bog down the game by repeating itself, or being just too horrible.

If you make another game like this, please, try what I've said. Overall, it's not bad, but it's not too great either. I'd just play it once, like it, then never play it again because it dosen't have anything too special.

thanks i probarly am going to make a second one :)

An old favorite.

Ah yes, Meteolife was an old favorite of mine. One of those that I spent playing for an hour or two. It reminded me a lot of StickRpg and yet was so different. Although even if it was bigger, it wasn't quite as great. I don't know if that's a cause of it, or just me.

After playing, you notice that there are a lot of glitches. Such as driving the car into the rock and the house to get it for free. Things like that. The different job things I loved, but there was only one that had ONE promotion. I like promotions.

If only all of them had that. But then, there are a few problems. The animations are short and sweet, but sometimes I'd like the option to skip them altoghter. Something else that bothered me was the "Being in debt is illegal and you have to go to jail."

THIS is what causes me to restart. So, not only do I lose all of my HP to go to jail I have to work the money off. FINE. But then, you lose HP when you go to work, and have to spend the money you're earning just to be able to HAVE THE PRIVALGE of working again. That is bullshit.

Overall, nice, but it has a serious flaw.

DannyP responds:

I agree entirely. Lots of people have said the same things, and it's really helped me learn a thing or two about making games, I think (not that I've really made many games since Meteolife). I think Meteolife only has 3 things that make it more interesting than StickRPG:
1. There's a bigger map to explore and more places to get employed at, some of which give you new options.
2. You can't just sleep your way to richness by dropping money in a bank.
3. If you've already bought everything in StickRPG, there's nothing to do but find a new game...

Those points could've all used improvement, though, and everything else is pretty much worse than StickRPG (especially in terms of coding). I dunno if I'll ever get around to making Meteolife 2, but it would probably be a really great game with the suggestions in these 325 reviews. I might ask an associate of mine to do the coding... then it would likely get done, and well.

I say

This is a really nice flash. Not that great mind you, but certainly good. Not the GOOD good, but a medicore good. The preloader was something that I found nice. The eyeball shoudn't have looped. It should have been a one time pop sound effect and that's it.

Gameplay was a little fun. Kept me entertained for a few minutes. I woudn't play this game again, though. Now there is something I would like to say.

Do not title this Why my Xth movie. That is simply just, no. Do not title it things like that. Titles are supposed to be about the thing. How about I rename Fallout 3 to something like, Bethesda's 26th (example) game. Yea it's not so great.

Thanks for the review

Actiony!

This game was really challenging for me. Not the first level. The second I beat in two tries, but after that it started to get hard. That's how you know it's a really good game. Well for it's genre.

One thing, though. You put it as an action game, when in fact it is a physics game. I don't know if that's a section, but if it's not then the game is a puzzle game. Because you have to use your mind. And where do you use your mind? In puzzle games.

Another problem is that there is a lack of music. I don't know if that is my speakers or what, but they are on and I tried turning it up. No music. So you should definatly add some. The time limit was annoying too.

Especially on hard ones. Also what I find weird is that this is on the front page, I think, and it has a score of 2.78. What a weird flash. Especially with the 6.7 average review score.

mattfosho responds:

Maybe you are right about the genre, it was hard finding one that fits.

There is no music in this version, nothing wrong with your speakers...

Wow

This game is simply amazing. The sheer lonliness of no music and the fact of him saying "hello?!" at every beggning of stage makes it feel lonley and deep. The bubbles and him being naked on a BMX bike add comidec affect.

The thing does offer challenge like you said. I had to remember at certain parts I died because they caught me off guard. Good thing that it respawned me at the same screen so that I could try again.

Starting at screen 5 it got harder. It took way more tried to get past that then the others. At stage 6 I was beat. That part where it says you coudn't back peddle was my stopping point. I tried and tried and tried, but coudn't get past it. If you could tell me how that would be nice.

I would like to see more out of you, though. And I would also like to see where the trail of bubbles leads. Ha! Bubbles. The last man on a frozen Earth who knows how many years after everyone died desides to follow a trail of bubbles. I do wonder how it froze? Maybe global warming? Nah, more like global cooling!

DampGnat responds:

Hi letiger,
Thanks for the kind review! If you're stuck at the end of level 6, you need to swing the guy up to the cliff edge by using the up and down keys, like being on a children's swing :)

Good luck!

Level up! This flash is now level 4.

Pixel games. How rare is it to see a semi-rpg type one of them. And it dosn't bug out on IE! That is a definate plus, well for me anyways. It didn't interfere with my ability to enjoy the games I like.

On to the gameplay. It is stunning. The amount of places to explore the crystals to collect, and of course the level up feature. I had fun day after day going and getting the same tons of crystals. Leveling up was a bonus.

The boss was way to hard the first day. I had to literally wait about a week in game. Collect enought crystals to buy all the skills from the sky people, 'cause I dont want to work for it, and get my sleep to level 5. Level 5 sleep is important.

Not because it lets you stay up longer, but because it lets you get all your main, that is the ones you start with, skills to 5. Then you should go get the level 5 relationship to beat the boss. He was a toughie.

It took me two long playthroughs to beat him. I mean it's just hard for me. The story is interesting after you beat him though. That is too say most of the story is after you've beaten the boss. And that's most of the game!

I actually didn't expect it to have that sort of ending. I thought it was just a random crash, but no a shock. I don't know if that's for everyone, or I'm just dumb. The ending did promise a sequel though.

Don't dissapoint us like movie based game sequels. Anyone that is a fan of the Nostalgia Critic should know this by now. Maybe there will be more things to level up in the next game. Including a fence repairing skill! Oh yea and, the Codex is self-refferential! I can only imagine what it must be like forgetting what it is day after day.

titch007uk responds:

I'll do my best to not disappoint. Kayn (the writer) seems to think the direction I'm taking series in is going is good, and that's good enough for me. There is going to be a great deal -more- story in the sequel. I'm getting a taste for doing this narrative stuff now.

Loosing to the boss on the first day is intentional. I know it's rarer these days, but I think putting the player in a situation where they have to loose is an interesting. After all people went on and on about that one scene in MW where you can't -possibly- win. I was just looking for a slightly different dynamic in that the possibility of victory had to be there, but hard to obtain. Otherwise it's not a struggle, or a cheap trick to make plays think they have a chance (Like bosses in RPG's you can't win against).

The game

It was a pretty good game. The grow control I find to be very weird, but I got used to it after a while. Next time maybe you should try to make it right click or middle mouse instead of space-bar click.

The music is simply the best for this type of game. I could not even think of anything better to go with it except maybe, metal? Not really. Another thing is that the game is a challenge. I found myself in some levels to find out really easily, while in others I had to fool around for a bit.

The mass tutorial message I felt came a little too late. Early in the game I could not see why I coudn't grow some of the bricks, which I had to do for me to beat that level, until the mass came into effect. (The affect effect XD I get them mixed up)

The octagon shaped smiley was a cute addition also. At the end I would say it is a pretty hard game at times. I can't wait until a #2. Maybe it'll be new levels designs? Maybe it'll be like Super Stacker. Who knows.

NPGames responds:

thanks for the review, i wish i could use right click but its impossible with flash

wow

A really great Windows parody. It would take me hours, or half of one, to tell all there is to do in this game. I mean it goes above and beyond the ones like Winodws HIV and Windows AIDS. Other famous ones too where you can finish it in a couple minutes. This was is just awesome.

Archawn responds:

Thanks!

Hmm

Theres is nothing really bad about this game except for one thing. I play with IE and whenever I'm playing the guy gets stuck running in one direction. I have to fidget the keyboard around to gain control of my character. Now idk if this is a random bug, but if it's for IE then that's a problem. Don't say "Oh get firefox" because I dont want to.

If you refuse to fix it because of that reason then I find it unfair that you have to single out the IE users that would play this game.

BoMToons responds:

It's a bug in IE, there's nothing I can do to fix it. They built their browser in a way that's not friendly with flash. Sorry.

There is a workaround for it though by changing some settings in IE, google it if you insist on keeping IE.

Haha!

While I loved the game I was annoyed at the end message. The first game I exported some to africa at the beggning but recycked half way through to the end. Then the next game I recycled everything and still made a lot of money. And it told me to be enviromentally concious? Atleast made a different message if you do it. Stuff like this usually pisses me off.

cchen20 responds:

Sorry, I had to crank this out in a couple days for homework... heh.

Will all of yous kindly fuck up?
